Broadwell processors will appear later this year

Intel CEO Brian Krzanich says that the upcoming processors from Broadwell will be ready by the end of the year.

Intel's plans are not secret. The company is in talks to launch 14nm Broadwell chips at the end of 2014 already for some time. But this time Krzanich says Broadwell products will be available during the holiday shopping season.

    Overcoming setbacks 14nm
Speaking to Reuters, Krzanich confirmed that Intel has experienced several setbacks. Rumors about the issues 14nm appeared several times in the last year or so. Intel has confirmed some of them and also the new 14nm mothballed plant in Arizona before it became operational. While the company said the decision was made due to the low demand for desktop chips.

It's no secret that the transition to 14nm is quite a hassle. Transition to it are more expensive than ever that requires more and more capital expenditure. At the same time, demand for consumer x86 chips remains small.

This applies not only to Intel. Other chip makers are joining forces to cut costs and speed up development. Last month, Samsung and Globalfoundries have united in an effort to accelerate the time to market for products 14nm FinFET.

    Finally, some good news
During the last financial meeting Intel, Krzanichu unable to identify any specific dates regarding Broadwell. He simply said that the chips will appear in the second half of this year. This time he was more specific.

"I can guarantee their appearance before the holidays, and not at the last moment," said Krzanich to Reuters.

Oddly enough, he mentioned earlier beginning of the school season, stating that "this is a great time to start selling." In order to have a product to the beginning of the school season, Intel chips should get ready much earlier and products should be on the shelf in July or August.
