Discovery of a New Way to Kill Cancer Cells

Tiny capsule, developed by American scientists, able to suppress cancer cells without damaging the healthy ones. This is reported in a new study published in the journal Nano Today.

According to the professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering at the University of California at Los Angeles and Tana, the capsule is made from a water-soluble polymer that safely delivers protein complex directly into the nuclei of cancer cells. This complex - apoptin derived from avian anemia - causing their death. This protein accumulates in the nucleus of cancer cells and creates signals that cause cells to self-destruct.

The size of the capsule is about 100 nanometers (half the size of the smallest bacteria). Secure shell dissolves in healthy cells. The study authors noted that this process does not pose a risk of mutations associated with gene therapy of cancer, or risk to healthy cells caused by chemotherapy, which does not distinguish between healthy and cancerous cells.

"This is a potential new approach to cancer treatment. Without the" vehicle "is difficult to deliver the protein in tumor cells. A unique way of treating cancer cells that will maintain healthy" - and says Tan.

Tests conducted on laboratory mice that hoisted the human breast cancer cells showed a significant reduction in tumor growth.
